Technical writing content

Technical description

I created a technical description for the Nintendo Entertainment System. By physically analyzing the device, and researching specifications on the device, I was able to write an accurate technical description.

This work shows how I:
- Use callouts to identify significant device parts and their use.
- Accurately provide technical information about a device.
- Research device information and familiarize myself with a new device.

Style guide

I collaborated with a small team to create a proposed content style guide for Rolex. We conducted research on existing content published by Rolex, to create accurate information. For this project I was in charge of the design and format.

This work shows how I:
- Collaborated with a group to achieve a specific goal.
- Designed and formatted content to match a brand’s style.
- Use consistent layout and design.
- Organize content efficiently.

User guide

I created a user guide for the open-source image editing application Darktable using Adobe Framemaker. This getting started guide provided amateur and professional photographers information on how to use the app.

This work shows how I:
- Took time to work with and understand the app, to provide the most accurate instructions.
- Analyzed the app to understand how a user will interact with it.
- Created and organized content into consistent chapters.
- Used concept, task and reference to convey information.
- Formatted each page using left/right pagination.

White paper

I researched information regarding automation in financial institutions to write a white paper on the topic. I focused on how automation benefits both employees and customers of financial institutions.

This work shows how I:
- Organize my thoughts in an effective manner.
- Provide sufficient information to readers on a new topic.
- Make content easily readable and accessible.

Usability research and testing

I collaborated with a small team to create a proposed enhancement of the Crave help site. To gather user feedback and information, we each conducted usability tests. I took the results of these tests, analyzed them and provided solutions to apply to our site.

This work shows how I:
- Collaborated with a group to achieve a specific goal.
- Work within a team environment.
- Plan and organize user research - choosing a research method and then analyzing the results.
- Present my findings to a team.
